 SEPTEMBER 2009
Welcome to Circle 218 Newsletter!

The newsletter will be published throughout the year to keep everyone informed about the club’s activities and general news among our members.

Upcoming events:

October - Linen Raffle
November – Baby Shower
December - Christmas Party

Membership Dues ($12) are payable during the first quarter of each year. Mail to Betty Hentz, Financial Secretary, 808 Sherman, Edwardsville IL 62025.

It is important to pay your dues promptly. Here’s why - because the State and the International Circles charge our Circle dues for each member quarterly. Help us pay our dues by paying your dues. If Betty Hentz has sent you a reminder to pay, please do it soon. Thanks!

Your benefits as a member are many. We encourage each other’s total development and foster growth of every aspect of life – spiritual, social and charitable which adds up to a more fulfilling life! Together we can make a difference in ourselves, our family, our church, our community, and our world.

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

Since June 2009 our circle has received 3 new members. Please welcome our new members – Rachel Besserman, Sandy English, and Janet McCarthy.

If you know a lady that would like more information or an application to join, please contact any of the officers listed at the top of this newsletter.

Keeping in Touch
with each other takes work on everyone’s part. We continue to send Birthday Cards to all members as a reminder that we appreciate each other. We also send appropriate cards, votives, and prayers to all members in need of special attention. If you know of a member who is not well, lost a loved one, or needs a little TLC (tender loving care), we want to know so we can extend our support and prayers to her. Contact any officer with information about a member in need. WE CARE!
Please pray for our members that we continue to grow and to be a positive influence in society to uphold the high ideals of life and morals.

 2009 ILLINOIS STATE CONVENTION
May 29 & 30

The 2009 Illinois State Convention was held in Springfield at Villa Maria Life Center. The theme was “Discover our Rich History” with several history/picture items on display and a DVD shown with many of our circles represented. About 55 ladies attended representing 10 circles. The international past Regent, Mrs. Joan Breton, represented the International Circle. Fr. David Turner is our new State Chaplain.

The hosting circles included O’Reilly Circle 218 (Edwardsville), Bishop O’Connor 831 (Wood River), and Sacred Heart 237 (Highland).
Fr. Jeff Goeckner, our own chaplain, celebrated the opening mass on Friday. Saturday was a Memorial Mass for our deceased sisters. Members played bingo on Friday night and were entertained by a very enjoyable singing group from the Springfield Diocese called “The Sisters of the Son”.

Business meetings included various resolutions, new standing rules and internal management rules, report from International Past Regent and new officers elected. New officers for 2009-2011 were installed as follows: Pat Blaszak, State Regent; Sharon Hengehold, State Vice Regent; Evelyn Ribordy, State Secretary; and Stephanie Klingelsmith, Treasurer. The position of State Financial Secretary and Recording Secretary were combined into one position at state level only.

I am pleased to report that O’Reilly Circle had six members in attendance. I thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your Regent and represent you at the State Convention.

Sharon

P.S. As a hosting circle, we were awarded $350 to a charity of our choice as our share of the state raffle income. Our members that were at the convention agreed to donate to the Catholic Charities of Madison County. Catholic Charities responded that they were very please with the donation.

2010 International Convention
Aug 1- 4, 2010 in Montreal, Canada.
Theme: You and I toward the Future

Year for Priests
June 19, 2009 – June 19, 2010
In honor of this celebration the International Board has presented the following 2 activities for Local Circles.

1 – Each local Circle should send the name of their Chaplain to International. At the Convention Masses a basket with all the names of our priests will be presented for a special intention for those who labor at the task that the Father gave to them.

2 – At each circle meeting a special prayer is said for our priests. “Lord, we ask you, by the intercession of St. John Vianney, to increase the priestly vocations in our community. Let priests continue to invest themselves in their vocation and their mission. Amen!” (I suggest that you might include this prayer with your daily prayers.)

 O'Reilly 218 - YARD SALE

We had a Yard Sale in July at the K of C Hall pavilion. We made a profit of over $200 for our first time. What fun - we all shared our trash, so someone else could find their treasures. At the end of the day, unsold items were delivered to Catholic Charities in town for resale or distribution to the less fortunate. We will have another one next year. Many thanks to all who donated, worked, and purchased for the cause!
